I'm coming up on my first year of employment salaried full time doing back end development, and I am wondering what I should be expecting in terms of a fair compensation increase. I don't really know what is normal, but I have often heard that people have to job hop particularly in tech to get paid what they are worth, and I want to be ahead of that meeting when it happens. I think I am somewhat underpaid already, because I'm not actually a fresh graduate. I like many in this sub had an impossible time getting full time employment post university, and kept myself afloat doing freelance for 2 years prior to landing this position. I understand that freelance is not as well-regarded on a resume however so I was happy to take a slight pay cut for stable income and benefits. Any input would be appreciated!

Some context:

- Current TC: 70k CAD pre-tax + health benefits

- Alberta, Canada

- Backend development, mid size startup (~50 employees) which is already profitable
